Tides in Hayling BayThis section has tide tables and tidal sets Tide Tables
Tidal Sets in Hayling Bay and surrounding area. HWP = High Water Portsmouth. This is within a few minutes of High Water at Chichester harbour entrance. The Worlds is around Neap tides, so for that week use the smaller figures. Very roughly what happens in Hayling Bay is that the tide rises, filling up the Solent and flowing from East to West, but its momentum means that it doesn’t turn until around 2 ½ hours after HW. It then flows from West to East, emptying the Solent, thru LW until around 2 ½ hours before the next HW. Around the turn, the flow direction rotates, flowing towards the beach on a rising tide or away on a falling tide. Immediately around Chichester harbour entrance it flows in and out of the harbour, changing direction at HW and LW. In the pictures below, the right hand island is Hayling Island |
